Fisherman

My first approach to this was playing around with random shapes ontop of a simple figure initially thinking some form of warrior but once I did the mask shape I was dead set on him being a fisherman because of the symbolism with the mask towards a heron’s beak

From the concept of the character I felt it would be nice to give him a sort of mood or a setting that he would be seen in, firstly I quiet liked the idea of his swimming using his mask apparatus to breath under water but I thought I would take more from the heron and have him waiting on a perch that has lure lines connected to it for drawing in the fish. Herons are the most skilled a proficient silent killers they simply stand still and wait.

The painting itself the fairly illustrative almost poster like which I personally like. I worked through it in simple stages starting out with a simple sketch then going onto black and white values then to add colour.
