Ok, for this project I wanted to explore a futuristic version of the Wild West. Also gives me an excuse to draw cowboys!!
So first I wanted to explore the character, a typical cowboy in a dystopian future. So I gathered reference of what cowboys typically look like and went from there straight in to designing a future version –
So from the reference gathered I have come up with a design sheet looking at possibly designs for dystopian cowboys –
Next an Environment,
I wanted a very typical western feel but with a bit of a twist so, tall manmade structures always give the feeling of unease in environments that are open so I explored this in my painting.
Also I wish to experiment with matt painting so I feel that this is a good opportunity to do so, I found a very helpful tutorial online - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STXq1VAdj8E

Now to explore transport, typically horses are the port of call for the Cowboy but this being futuristic I wanted something a little more high tech so speeder bike it is!!
