MINI PROJECT 5 - THE WILLOWS

Redesign of The Wind and the Willows, i think at the moment i know where my MA is going. Im looking at interpretations of briefs and i think mainly how they differ from illustration and concept art because both practices do create fantastic artwork in there own way but for different reasons mainly due to whats expected for the outcome.

For this Mini Project i'm taking an existing IP that is more lent towards illustration and reinterpreting it for a game.

So here are Mr Mole, Mr Badger and Mr Toad from the Wind in the Willows which im renaming 'The Willows' Mr Ratty is on the way but im having a lot of trouble with the drawing, see below.

This is currently the cloesest i have got but i'm not happy with it. iv now done way to many attempts and its starting to be counter productive.

SO, iv been adding colour to the other three and i can show Mr Mole and Mr badger

From here my plan is to design and colour all four, make introduction sheets for each character and animate subtly like, 'note to me, insert name of kid show josh showed me'

from here action shots for a poster / box art

then some level concepts and also maybe enemies

HAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!! GOT YA, YA LIL BUGGER!!!!!!!!

Black and white set.

from here i think that some concepts for levels should be done, i have been looking at Shaun Mooney's work for some insperation -

these are heavily reliented on dynamic angles and strong prespectives, i think this makes these smaller and confined studies work alot better.

I mocked up a quick 3d template useing maya then began to paint over, -

After looking at this with fresh eyes i can see many a flaw. this now is an area of practise i really do need to adress and become profficent in because alot of companies use these sort of prespective heavy level concepts.

I had anouther couple of goes at the prespective landscapes, the first exploring an english water front which i have changed into a smuggling operation and secondly a dungeon from toad hall.

MINI PROJECT 4 - BOGEYMAN

Bogeyman in space , , , , , , fun times.

Change Style from previous investigations into lose almost like Yoji Shinkawi or Ashley wood, both used for insperation

First Atempt failed, went onto produce a character set in simple lines.

Character Set

Two failed attempts at detailing slash colouring differntly, both way did not lend well to the lose style.

First potrait exsperiment, worked well. Need to think like a painter and be bold with my strokes.

Potrait set, taking one farwrd to detail fully,

Detailed experiment on one of the portraits, worked well going to take it further as another experiment

Worked into it added more definition. this to my surprise has worked well but saying this i think i prefure the earlier iteration.

MINI PROJECT 3 - SWANLAKE

Set myself to re interprete / design more for the story elements, so i wanted to aim my designs away from the Ballet.

Rough enitial sketch for Von Rothbart - Conclusion to theater esque

Secondry, made him more menacing, idea is that he has warped his body to resemble an owl because of his excesive use of dark magic
